Flynn Andrizzi, PhD

President, Hoag Hospital Foundation

Flynn Andrizzi came to Hoag in 2010 from the University of Iowa Foundation, where he served as the senior vice president and chief development officer. A 20-plus year veteran in fundraising with an extensive background in managing highly successful university foundations, Flynn implements fundraising best practices to move the Hoag Hospital Foundation to the next level.

Kathie Armstrong

Chair, Hoag Hospital Foundation Board

Kathleen Armstrong was assistant general counsel at Rockwell Automation. After attending the groundbreaking ceremony of Hoag Hospital Irvine in 2010, she became the first chair of the Hoag Irvine Advisory Committee. She was instrumental in building the committee and continues to be an ambassador for Hoag Hospital Irvine. She joined the Hoag Hospital Board of Directors in 2013 and now serves as the HHF Board chair. Kathie was the first executive director for Quiksilver Foundation and served as a board member of the Humanitarian Fund for the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association. She lives with her husband and their three children in Irvine, California.

Robert Braithwaite

President and Chief Executive Officer, Hoag

Robert T. Braithwaite is president and chief executive officer of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. He is the senior executive responsible for all aspects of hospital operations and quality of care. He is also responsible for a significant philanthropic effort, directing the Hoag Hospital Foundation along with a senior executive and staff. In addition, he is responsible for the provision of hospital-sponsored outreach services and is accountable for achieving community benefit goals, as determined by the Board of Directors.

From 2009 until his appointment as president and CEO in 2013, Mr. Braithwaite was chief operating officer of Hoag’s entire health care network, including both campuses of Hoag Hospital. Robert also served as chief administrative officer of Hoag Hospital Irvine, leading the process of developing, building, staffing and licensing both Hoag Hospital Irvine as well as Hoag Orthopedic Institute.

Allyson Brooks, MD, FACOG

Hoag’s Women’s Health Institute 

Allyson Brooks, MD, was instrumental in establishing Hoag as a Becker’s top “100 Hospital With Great Women’s Health Programs” by developing comprehensive, integrated programs in maternal child health, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, pelvic health, breast health and women’s wellness.

In addition to her leadership in women’s health, Dr. Brooks is the senior physician executive overseeing quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation, performance improvement, infection prevention and patient relations at Hoag. A board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Brooks retired in 2013 from her private practice in Newport Beach after 21 years. 

Marcy Brown

Senior Vice President 

Chief Hospital Operations Officer, Hoag 

Marcy Brown is responsible for hospital operations at both Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and Hoag Hospital Irvine. She oversees Hoag’s chief nursing officer as well as lab, pathology, radiology, pastoral care, community medicine and the Hoag Urgent Care Network.

Prior to her current role, Marcy served as senior vice president of Hoag Hospital Irvine and Ambulatory Services. During her tenure, she partnered with city, community and business leaders to ensure the successful launch of Hoag Hospital Irvine. She was instrumental in the strategic and operations planning for the launch of Hoag Health Center Irvine, Hoag Health Center Tustin Legacy and Hoag Health Center Foothill Ranch. In addition, she supported the Urgent Care leadership team as they significantly expanded services throughout Orange County.

Susan Mendelsohn, MD, FACOG

OB-GYN

Dr. Susan Mendelsohn has been in private practice in the Laguna Hills area since 1990. She says the excitement, warmth and feeling in her heart of being the first one to actually touch a new life and bring it safely into the world will never change. She has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery, including hysterectomy and myomectomy. 

At Saddleback Medical Center, Dr. Mendelsohn is a member of the Women’s and Children’s Case Review Committee and has served on Memorial Care’s Best Practice Team since its inception. Dr. Mendelsohn graduated with honors from New York University Grossman School of Medicine. She completed postgraduate training at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. 

Sanford L. Smith, AIA

Senior Vice President, Real Estate and Facilities, Hoag

Sanford Smith heads the departments responsible for the planning, development and operations of all facility projects, performance improvement and laboratory and pathology services for Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.

Prior to joining Hoag, Mr. Smith was the corporate manager of real estate and facilities for Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. Mr. Smith is a licensed architect and belongs to the American Institute of Architects.
